Department of Political Science : Morigaon College

Introduction

The department of Political Science is dedicated to excellence in teaching and service. As a department, it offers solid foundation and broad understanding of the discipline and  allows students for substantive interest at local, regional and national level. Currently the department has four experienced and dedicated faculty members. The department has maximus numbers of student enrolment within the college.

History

Morigaon college was established on 1st July, 1964. It is one of the oldest institutions of higher education of undivided Nagaon District of Assam. It is already completed 59 years as one of the premiere institutions engaged actively in nurturing and disseminating ray of education in the region. In 1984, the department of Political Science was established with both Major and pass Course.

The founder teachers of this department were

  2. Hirimba Kumar Goswami,
  3. Ganesh Chandra Medhi,
  4. Dr. Idris Ali

  • certificate courses- i) “Human Rights” ii) “Public Administration” and iii) Politics in North East India since 1947

  • Inadequate and insufficient study materials to cope up with the frequently changing Syllabi and Courses.
  • Engagement of teachers by the government in non-academic activitiesi.e; Election Duties, Census Duties etc. that hampers the teaching learning outcomes.

i) Session: 2020-2021-10/04/2021- State-level online Essay writing competition on the topic of “Role of India as The Largest Democratic State in Global Context” amongst the 1st, 3rd and 5th semester students on the occasion of 75th Independence Day celebration on 2021.

ii) Session:2021-2022-15/12/2021-Lecture program on the topic of “substance abuse and suicidal tendency”
